Lightning Never Strikes Twice

Room one was learning how to add more language features into our writing. We also had to describe how we would feel if lightning struck twice.

I was frightened as I crouched between a pile of dusty sacks.  Inside the windmill it was dusty and even a stale stench. The wind was howling like a wolf on a full moon. The streaks of lightning hit the itching bolts of the sail. I screamed but it only got louder. The wind wasn’t howling like before.  My foot crept away touching a magic light. Heat waves rushed through my body as I was zapped. Light cloud of smoke crept past the tip of my nose and made me sneeze. My eyes felt like they went out of my skull. The wind stole the door as if it were a thief.

William Pike Beach Cookout

Today room 1, room 8, teachers, teacher aids and parents went down to the Karoro beach
near Watson's creek and the Tasman sea. The people in my team were Sam, Xavier, Callan,
Grace and I. Also the parent supervisor for my team was Matt Levein.
We went on the 3rd of April in the morning in Autumn during the open fire season.

My team made a tee pee campfire and surrounded it with rocks. First we dug a hole in the
ground. After digging a hole everyone got pieces of wood and put them into a pile. We then
started to build the tee pee out of the sticks. We searched for big rocks to surround it and
then lit it with the match after. Lastly Matt put a grill on top of the rocks so we could cook
our food.

All of my team took some food or Cutlery to school for the beach cookout. We made steak
with potatoes and garlic butter for our main course. For our desert we cooked bananas and
put chocolate sauce and mini marshmallows inside. We also cooked our food on a grill when
there were hot embers and small flames left. We wrapped the potatoes in tin foil and cooked
them in the fire and on the grill. As we cooked the bananas we left them inside of their skin
so they wouldn’t get dirty from the grill.

We went to the beach cookout for the William Pike challenge and we had lots of fun cooking,
eating and making campfires. Our classes also went to learn new skills as a team. The skills
my team learnt were how to build a campfire and how to cook really good food.

I personally thought that the beach cookout was a good experience and I would do it again but
next time I would bring bread and a rubbish bag. Next time I’d wear more enclosed shoes as
well. I really enjoyed making the tee pee campfire because I haven’t made one before.
I enjoyed the banana split because it had lots of chocolate sauce and mini marshmallows it
was yummy.
