Junior Journal For SSR

For ssr I had to read three non fiction articles from a school journal. I read some articles from a school journal called The Desert Kaupoi by Ariana Tikao. My favourite part was about the second world war. It said that the second world war started in 1939 when Germany invaded Poland. It also said that the war ended in May 1945 and that it lasted for 6 years.

Magazine For SSR

Magazine - read at least three articles from within a magazine. Write a paragraph about your thoughts about your favourite part.

I read three KCC articles from a magazine called Wild Things for ssr. The one that I read was about the wildlife and scraps. My favourite part was when it talked about how biodegradable scraps can take up to months or years to break down. I also liked how it said that scraps can attract pests like stoats, mice and rats.

Graphic Novel For SSR

I read a graphic novel called The Three Little Pigs that was retold by Lisa Trumbauer and illustrated by Aaron Blecha. My favourite part was when the third little pig was meant to meet up with the big bad wolf at an orchard, but instead he went earlier and picked apples from an apple tree. It was my favourite part because the wolf thought that the pig would meet up at five o’clock in the morning at the orchard. Instead the pig went at four o’clock in the morning. The wolf thought the pig went earlier on accident but the pig did it on purpose.

Song For SSR

My favourite song lyrics that I read were Believer by Imagine Dragons and when I was reading the song lyrics I could imagine the sound/beat of the song playing. I really enjoyed reading the lyrics because I think that it’s a song that people would like or have heard before. I also liked it because it says you break me down, you build me up believer. It reminds me of someone making a mistake and then trying again/giving it another go.

Poem For SSR

My favourite poem that I read was On The Road written by Lola Fisher. I also liked the picture that was of someone crossing the road. It talks about someone facing their fear of crossing busy roads in Vietnam and I think it’s cool since I was once scared of crossing roads. In this poem there is someone who is being a role model to someone else as well.

Tohunga Reading Reflection

            Tohunga Reading Reflection

From reading and learning about Tohungas I now know that Tohungas were
illegal and rongoā the natural herb/plant they used was illegal as well. I also
learnt that Tohungas are like māori doctors but they use natural ingredients,
herbs and chants. Tohungas used rongoā and it is a plant that the Tohunga
used to heal many illnesses. Tohungas and rongoā used to be illegal but
aren’t anymore.

In this story there was a boy called Rāmahi who was quite sick so Mā his
mother took him to a Tohunga because all the other doctors didn’t help him
at all. In the end he didn’t get better straight away but he did start talking and
walking around when they got back.
